It was a great night, weather-wise. Plenty of sunshine, a few billowy clouds, no rain, and not much wind to speak of. Every night should be like that!

As always, thanks to Dan and especially Glen for filling in at the last minute. Having a sub to play against is always more fun than not having one (even when they kick our butts… Dan!)

Not surprisingly, the nice weather resulted in mostly better scores, with just two handicaps going up, and four remaining the same, we had 8 players improve their handicaps heading into next week’s matches.

Only one player posted here, as Mark took 5 skins with his birdie at the 5th. Nice job Mark!

Team Michalski played well in the net skins category, as Pete started out with 2 skins at the 2nd hole, followed immediately by Sue with a skin at the 3rd. Mark’s birdie, net eagle at the 5th hole earned him 2 skins, and then Sue took another 3 skins with her par, net eagle at the 8th. Dan Richardson rounded out the category, just missing a birdie chip for a net albatross at the final hole, settling for par, net EAGLE and 1 skin. Nice hole Dan!

The first match out was a close one, and one of 2 matches on the night that had 4 tied holes. Mark took the first point against Dave, who quickly recovered to square the match. Two holes later he went 1-up only to have Mark square it back up on the next hole, where it remained until the 8th. Mark took a 1-up lead into the final hole giving Dave a chance to tie the match with a win there, but twas not to be, as they halved that hole giving Mark the 5-4 win.  Great match guys!

In the battle of veterans between Marty and Bob, it was Marty with the early 1-up lead, lasting until a win by Bob at the 4th squared things back up, albeit briefly. A win by each player over the next 2 holes left them all square after 6, but it was Marty closing out the match strong taking 2 ½  of the remaining 3 points for the 5 ½ - 3 ½ win.

Despite taking a 1-up lead at the first hole, Andy was no match for Dan Richardson, who squared things up at the next hole, and then took a 1-up lead at the 4th. Dan went on to extend his lead over the final 3 holes for the 6 ½ - 2 ½ win! Nice round Dan! (Note: Your handicap has been adjusted accordingly 😊)

Next up was a family affair featuring old Dan vs young Dan. A couple of wayward tee-shots by young Dan gave old Dan an early opening, as he was 1-up after the 2nd hole. Young Dan squared the match at the 3rd, where it remained until he took his first lead at the 6th, and never looked back, winning 3 ½ of the final 4 holes for the 6-3 win. Fun match fellas!

Glen had his hands full in his match with Bette. While shooting 1-over his handicap, Bette shot 3-under hers, getting to 3-up after holes. It was a little back-and-forth from there, getting the match to 2-up after 7. Splits at the final two holes kept it there, giving Bette the 5 ½ - 3 ½ win. Not sure which nickname to use here:  “Steady Betty” or “Buzzsaw Bette😊

It was a “Couples-win” night, as Tom took Brian to task, getting off to an early 2-up lead. Brian fought back to square the match up after 5 holes, but Tom then proceeded to run the table on him, winning all 4 of the remaining holes for the 6 ½ - 2 ½ win. Great finish Tommy!

In the second of the “Couples-win” matches, it was Pete vs Gloria. After splitting the first hole with Gloria, Pete ran it up to a 3-up lead after 7 and looked like he was on his way to a blowout. Gloria managed to win the final 2 points to keep the match close, as Pete shot a tidy 1-under net. Nice round Pete, and way to finish strong Glo!

Rounding out the “Couples-win” night was Pete’s other half. Tim was no match for Sue as she fired a net 3-under par, on her way to a 6-3 win. Great round Sue!

Congrats to both couples for their wins!

Knock-out Contest

This week’s contest went well into extra holes, and a rare 11 point win, as Marty, Dan P. Tom and Andy were all still in the mix after 9 holes. Going back to the first hole for just those 4 players, we saw Tom and Andy survive with fours to Marty’s and Dan’s fives, which earned them 9 points each. Tom and Andy then battled it out to the 3rd hole where Andy prevailed with a 4 to Tom’s 5, giving 10 points to Tom and 11 to Andy.

Marty took over the season-long lead from Dan Fusco, while Tom moved up into 4th place from 6th. Meanwhile Gloria fell from 4th to 8th.

Eagles and Birdies

There was only birdie managed out there tonight, despite several opportunities.

#5 - Mark
