Another night of perfect weather! What more is there to say?

Once again, thanks to our subs Ev, Paul and DanDan, sorry you didn’t have an actual match. I did make a card match between you and Scoop, as his was the closest handicap to Tim’s. See below

With just 4 players shooting at or below their handicaps, we saw 4 handicaps go down, 4 go up while 7 remained the same.

Mark took 1 skin with the only recorded par on the first hole, while Dan Richardson had the only par on the 17th to take 7 skins there.

There was just one winner in the net skins, as Dan R’s 3 net 2 at the 17th earned him the 8 skins.

Scoring in the first match was pretty interesting. The was only 1 tied hole, right in the middle of the match on the 14th. Prior to that, Mark had won the first two holes, and Dan the next two.  After the midway point, it was Dan winning the first 2 holes and then Mark winning the next two, ultimately ending the match in a 4 ˝ - 4 ˝ tie, with Dan taking the net point by 1 stroke. Well fought guys!

Andy and Paul started out evenly, splitting the first 2 holes. Both players got a little “Mohsinger Love” on the 12th hole, as each of their tee shots were headed deep into the woods, only to come to rest in-play and in the wide open.  Tommy, our cheques are in the mail. The rest of the match was fairly lackluster, as both players had reached their handicap strokes by the 4th hole. In the end, it was a modest 5-4 for Andy. Let’s shoot for better next week Paul!

On most any other night, a net 38 would get some good points, but, as Ev found out, that is not going to be the case when Marty shoots 3-under his handicap (which does drop his HCP 1 stroke for next week’s match with Dan Fusco). The 6 ˝ - 2 ˝ win plus the bonus point gave Marty the top point-score on the night.  Nice round Marty!

While Tom went wire-to-wire against Young Dan, it looks like a real battle was waged as they tied 6 of the 9 holes.  It appears that the double at the tricky 12th hole was Dan’s undoing, as Tom won that stroke-hole outright. Great match guys! I’m not sure if 6 tied holes is a record or not.  Possibly a tie.

With the 5th match knotted 4 different times during the first five holes, Dave outlasted Gloria in the end, taking 3 of the final 4 points for the 5 ˝ - 3 ˝ win, along with a net even par round. Nice round Scoop!

Dirty deeds are suspected in Pete’s 5 ˝ - 3 ˝ victory over Sue, as there are reports of spotting a hacksaw blade hanging out of his bag.  This might explain Sue’s equipment issue, as the head fell off her putter shaft early in the round. Fortunately for Sue, she was playing with Gloria and not Ev, as this provided her with access to a substitute right-handed putter. I was wondering why Pete had asked if they could be in the same group as Ev

All kidding aside, great round Pete! You and Marty were the only players that shot better than their handicaps tonight. You were in good company.

While Bob struggled a bit out of the gate against Jim, who got the lead to 4-up thru 5 holes, he found some momentum at the end, taking 3 points over the final 4 holes, holding Jim to the 5 ˝ - 3 ˝ win.

In this card match, Dan Richardson went wire-to-wire against Dave. Dave managed to keep it close throughout, as the match wavered between 1-up and 2-up till the end, with Dan clinching the 5-4 win by the 8th hole. Dave did manage to snare the bonus point with his even par net to Dan’s 1-over.

League Standings

Despite a modest ˝ point gain, Mark retained the number one spot in the standings. A 2-point gain by Dan Fusco moved him up from 3rd into a tie for 2nd with Tommy.  Meanwhile, Andy switched places with Bette, moving up one spot into 4th, as Bette’s point total remained the same following her absence from play, dropping her only slightly into 5th place.

Hacker Cup

With the start of the playoffs, we see some dramatic movement, as three players move from outside to inside the top-5 positions. Dan Fusco held onto the top spot, while Marty moved into the #2 position from his 11th seeded start, nudging Mark down one spot into 3rd. With Tim out-of-action for the night falling to 9th place, Dave moved up 4 spots into a tie for 4th place with Pete, who took a giant leap up from the bottom to join him there. Also not playing was Bette, falling from 5th place to 10th. Finally, Andy dropped out of the top 5, falling from 3rd place to 6th.

The Numbers:

40 – Marty

42 – Mark

43 - Andy

Knock-out Contest

Marty earned the honors here this week, outlasting everyone through 8 holes. The 7 points gained keep him firmly implanted in 1st place in the season-long standings.

Eagles and Birdies

We had 3 birdies tonight, all coming at the par 5 13th hole. Kudos to:

Dan Fusco, Marty and Jim
