Thank you Glenn and Dan for filling in this week. With 5 players out, your presence was greatly appreciated!
|
9 players saw no change to their handicap after tonights round, while 1 went up. Our lead-off match of Mark and Brian were the only players to lower theirs after this round, as Brian also joined the ranks of players with more than 1 low-net round for the season. This feat lowered his handicap by 2 strokes going into the end of the season.

Three players had skins here, starting with Andy taking 2 skins with the only par on the 2nd hole. Gloria took the next 2 skins with her par on the 4th hole. Mark closed out the skins with his birdie on the par 5 5th.
|
Sue started things off here, with her net eagle on the par 3 3rd hole (this also won her the cash as Bette pulled the #3 ball out of the bag on the first go!) Nicely timed eagle Sue! Gloria followed up that eagle with one of her own on the very next hole, garnering her a single skin there. Tom finished up the net skins taking 4 of them with a net birdie on the difficult 8th hole.

Brian came out firing again Mark, getting off to an early 3-up lead. It took a birdie by Mark at the 5th to get his only full point and cut the lead to 2-up. This wasnt enough though, as Brian went on to win 2 of the final 4 holes, and tie the other 2, for the 6 ½ - 2 ½ win, firing a tidy 3-under par net. Great round Brian! |
Our next two matches featured Pete pulling double duty, with a regular match against Dan Richardson, and a card match against Dave. In both matches, Pete got off to a slow start, trailing in both for most of the round, but then coming on strong at the end, winning 3 ½ points over the final 4 holes in both matches to take a 6-3 win over Scoop, and a 5-4 win over Dan. Way to finish Pete!
|
Next up Dan Palmerino and Glenn looked like they were on their way to a tie as they started out splitting each of the first 3 holes, before Glenn took first blood at the 4th hole. Danny quickly got it back to square on the following hole. This pattern repeated over the next 3 holes, giving Glenn the 1-up lead, and Dan a chance to even the match going into the final hole. Both players bogeyed the last, giving Glenn the point and the 5 ½ - 3 ½ win. Nice match guys!
|
In the Conflict of Cousins, it was Dan Fusco going wire-to-wire against Jim. With 4 tied holes, Jim managed to keep the match close, as Dan won 5-4, while taking the bonus point by just 1 stroke. With Young Dan in the group to referee, there were no reported incidents of malfeasance. I do however, feel badly for Glenn, who I am sure had to endure some shenanigans out of these guys.
|
Gloria and Sue started off pretty even, as they tied the first hole, followed by some back-and-forth action that saw Gloria get to 1-up after 6 holes. A bogey-bogey-bogey finish over the difficult final 3 holes led to her 4-up, 6 ½ - 2 ½ win over Sue.
|
Tom took an early 1-up lead as a poor tee shot by Andy at the first hole opened the door. A quick recovery got the match back to all square, where it remained until the 4th hole, where Andy went on a 3-hole win-streak. Tom fought back with a tie and a win at the 7th and 8th holes, but in the end, it was Andy with the 6-3 win, handing Tommy his first loss since the 2nd week. Tough loss Tom, but a great match!

Things have gotten very interesting here. A rare set of circumstances have aligned for the final week, as the current #1 and #2 players (Mark and Andy), and the current #3 and #4 players (Tom and Dan F), will be facing off against one another in position matches. This follows this weeks round where the previous #2 and #3 players (Tom and Andy) also had a position match, in which a win by Andy resulted in a position flip. Rounding out the top 5 are Marty and Tim, who, despite their absences, maintained their tie for 5th place. Numerically speaking, the league winner will come from those top 4 players, while 2nd and 3rd place is reachable by the top 6 players. Pete and Dave have an opportunity to be spoilers in their respective matches with Marty and Tim |
Marty fell to 3rd place as he was out-of-action on the night. Mark and Dan F moved up into 1st and 2nd respectively, followed by Pete moving up to 4th place from 8th, as Andy remained in 5th place. Also not playing was Tim, falling from 4th place to 6th. Eight players are within range of the top spot numerically, however, some will need a top 4 finish for low-net on the final week in order to have a real chance. |
41 Mark
42 Andy
45 Dan F
33 Brian
37 Pete, Gloria
38 Mark, Dan P, Dan F, Andy
A shortened field along with some big numbers early-on, led to a low points night here, as Brian earned just 4 points along with the gloves-of-honor for outlasting the rest of the field through to the 5th hole. Marty still leads and next week needs only to make it through elimination to the 5th hole to guarantee the season-long win. |
Once again, just 1 birdie was found tonight, and, once again, it was Mark!
#5 - Mark
Mark took the honors tonight, knocking it to just 12 6
