Despite the gray clouds seen in all directions, the week-ago forecast held up, as we had another great night weather-wise.  Despite this, a few, not all (Marty), struggled a bit, a indicated by the post-round handicap movement.  It was 6-to-1 for up-and-down movement, while 5 players maintained their handicaps.

Thanks to Dan and Glenn for filling out our ranks, matching one-another in a battle of subs.  And it was a close one, with Glenn drawing first blood at the 2nd hole, then getting to 2-up through 4. Dan fought back taking the next 2 holes to square things up through 6. A par at the 7th gave the lead back to Glenn, but Dan fired back to knot the match going into the final hole. A par for Dan won the hole and the match, while Glenn managed to take the bonus, giving both players 5 points for the night. Nice match gents!

Well, it was the Marty Reed show tonight, as he made his 2024 debut in fine form. Starting and finishing his round with birdies, he jumped out to a 3-up lead over Sue after 3 holes and ended with a 5-up lead for 7 points plus the bonus.  The only blemishes on the round came at the 4th and 5th, as a water ball at the railroad hole led to a triple, followed by a double at the long par 3 (with a pin placed on the side of a cliff). Nice round Marty! In addition to this, Marty took CTP honors, low gross honors, and won the moneyball! Sue, there’s not much you could’ve done to fight that.  Kudos for hanging in there!

Bette and Dave had a close one going, as Bette took the early 1-up lead as Dave struggled out of the blocks. He regained his composure and managed to get back to all square through 3, only to see Bette take back the lead at the railroad hole (#4). From there, it was all Scoop, as he rang up 4 ½ points over the remaining 5 holes, to close out the match 6-3 plus the bonus.  Great finish Dave! Tough beat Bette

Pete took the first hole against Andy, as, like Scoop, he too struggled out of the gate, topping 3 shots on his way to tripling the first hole. Recovering at the 2nd hole, the match was back to all square where it remained until the railroad hole. With all his playing partners in the hazard trying to get to the green, and his own failed record on this hole this season of splashing every 3rd shot into the pond giving him pause, Andy finally put one pin-high onto the green. 3 putts later he was in for a disappointing bogey <sigh>, but a 1-up lead. Pete struggled a bit down the stretch, managing just 1 ½ holes, leading to the final 3-up win for Andy.

It was a real battle between Matt and Dan Fusco. As the only player whose handicap improved following this round, Matt jumped to the early lead, and, with 5 holes tied, managed to take a wire-to-wire win over Dan. Against Dan, that is no small feat Matt.  Great round!

In a nearly wire-to-wire win, Tim and Bob started out all-square after the first hole. Tim then went on a 3-hole winning spree to go 3-up.  Bob fought back, taking 3 of the next 4 holes to go into the final hole just 1-down with a chance to tie the match.  Unfortunately, the par 5 finishing hole was not kind to Bob, giving the 2-up win to Tim. Great effort Bob!

It doesn’t get any better than this next match, as Jim and Tom tied the first 5 holes of their match, something I don’t recall ever seeing before. Tommy took first blood at the 5th, but a Jim win on the next hole evened the match back up. Tom took the lead for a second time at the eighth hole, and, holding Jim to a tie on the last hole, secured himself the 1-up victory. 6 tied holes may be a record. Someone should check 😊  Great match guys!

Did I say it doesn’t get any better?  Well… this next match was a real slugfest! With the exception of the one-and-only tied hole at the 7th, both players alternately won 2-holes in row, starting with Dan Palmerino taking the first 2 holes.  Mark then shot back taking the next 2 holes. Dan then said, “oh no you don’t”, and took the next 2 holes, getting to a 2-up lead going into the aforementioned 7th hole. Still 2-down at that point, Mark replied “oh yes I do”, and went on to win the final two holes to end the match in a draw.  Great match fellas!

Well, all good things must come to an end.  There will be no “other-less” player this season, as both Andy and Marty recorded their first triple of the season. This contest now consists of who will have the lowest percentage of others per round.

Marty joins Mark in the undefeated ranks, while Andy finally records his first win of the season.

League Standings

Marty jumped to the top with his first week’s play, nudging Mark and Jim down to 2nd and 3rd respectively.  Meanwhile, Dave moved up into 4th place from his previous tie for 6thTim pulled a “Dolly Parton” going from position 9 to 5, as Dan F and Sue fell from the previous T3 positions, to T7 and 13th, respectively.  Bob also fell out of the top 5, dropping into a tie for 10th with Tommy.

Hacker Cup

The top 3 remained as Mark, Dan F, and Tim held their spots. Matt made a big move up the board from 10th to 4th, as Bob and Sue each slid down one spot into 5th and 6th.
