Mid-Season Event RESULTS

6/28/2024

Well despite some last-minute scrambling, and course-scheduling issues, and slow play from groups ahead of us, the round went off without a hitch, thanks in very large part to Tim stepping up to take over the administration and logistics of the event.  Thanks very much Tim!

I am going to paraphrase Tim a bit here in the write-up, beginning with everyone seemed to have had a good time with the format, and as always seems to be the case, “Several people remarked that they never felt like they had the wrong club in their bag and were wondering why they carry so many clubs.” Personally, I have found that this format not only takes away some of the decision-making process (when it comes to club selection) but also makes me focus more on a shot where maybe I have a little too much club in my hand.  Something I should probably do no matter WHAT club I have in my hand, but never seem to do…

Apparently, no one brought the right club for the tee shot on the 14th hole, as we have our first night this season without a CTP winner. As Tim describes the pin location as tucked behind the bunker on the right side, I can appreciate how this could happen.

The scramble “Ham and Egg Award” goes to the team of Dave and Matt, as, despite one player putting a ball in 2 of the 3 ponds in play, they managed to finish in 2nd place with a net 33. Well scrambled gentlemen!

Third place involved a tie-breaker situation between the teams of Mark and Bob, and Jim and Jill.  With both teams shooting a net 2-under, with 1 eagle and 3 birdies each, it came down to the number of pars. Veteran Hackers Mark and Bob prevailed with 3 to Jim and Jill with 1 less at 2.

And the winners are Dan2, aka Dan Palmerino and Dan Richardson, with 2 eagles, 1 birdie and only 1 bogey, for a 4-under 32!  Great round sirs!

As a group, there were a total of 4 eagles, 18 birdies, 27 pars, 13 bogeys and just 1 double bogey for a net 11-under par!

The night wasn’t without controversy however, as there were some words exchanged with that slow-moving group in front of ours. Fortunately, there was no escalation beyond that (that I know of 😊)  Hopefully, this didn’t take away too much from the enjoyment of the round.

Also, there seems to have been some shenanigans attempted on the par 3 17th hole, as Tim attempted to, um, assist, Gloria’s par putt into the hole from its precarious finishing position overhanging the cup. Dan Fusco and Bette quickly put the kibosh on that.
